I’m Polly Superstar, your host here at Writing With Mermaids.
I’m the author of Polly: Sex Culture Revolutionary and the founder of two influential underground sex culture institutions: Mission Control and Kinky Salon. As an artist, poet, performer, provocateur, and lifelong advocate for gender and sexual diversity, my work celebrates the richness of human sexuality.
Through writing, poetry, sculpture, painting, mixed media, immersive installations, performance art, and ritual, I delve deep into the complexities of sexuality, gender, pleasure, empowerment, and social justice.
While I’m often recognized for my flamboyant stage presence, costumes, and larger-than-life persona as a party host and performer, behind the scenes I’m a sensitive introvert. I’ve navigated personal challenges including ADHD, chronic pain, sleep disorders, and profound grief—experiences that deeply inform both my art and my advocacy.
To stay grounded, I practice yoga and meditation daily. I hold a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification from Yoga Alliance and teach private classes from my home in Las Vegas.
I am an avid lover of nature, finding solace in the quiet contemplation that can only be experienced at a hot spring, unplugged from the world.
Writing alone is incredibly hard. It’s isolating and lonely and can easily spiral into crippling self doubt and stalled projects.
It’s not easy to find community that gets you when you’re queer/ kinky/ slutty/ neurodivergent. You are not alone.
The mirror we hold to the world with our stories is important. Even unrecognized, unpublished words bring unknown and undervalued richness to culture.
Writing in community builds confidence, allowing you to amplify your voice and be visible in a culture that is trying to erase us.
Writing for the self, even if you never share your work, can be a profound act of self-care. This community is a network of support for processing emotions through writing.
Our right to live freely and openly is being challenged. These are troubling and dangerous times. We will not be silenced.
My friendly online writing sessions focus on community building and overcoming writing anxiety. We meet, invoke the spirit of storytelling, and ground ourselves in our bodies and our breath. With guided visualization, we find the story that wants to be told. We write together, and then we share. Prioritize your creative process and experience amazing breakthroughs when you take just two hours and dedicate it to your writing practice.
If you want to dissolve creative blocks and immerse yourself in writing, then my in-person retreats are for you. With more time dedicated to writing, we can flush out creative channels and find inspiration swimming in the fluidity of our aquatic nature. Together, we use our imaginations to dissolve our worries and watch as creativity bubbles to the surface. These retreats take place in hot spring retreats or homes with hot tubs and use soaking in water as an essential part of the writing process.
Do you have a book (or creative writing project) that you’re working on but don’t know how to take it from private scribblings to published masterpiece? Or are you writing aimlessly and looking for direction? I am here to help. I can guide you through the process, helping you every step of the way. As your writing doula, I will be there for practical advice and to help you breathe, hold your hand, and make the emotional process of birthing your creativity a little easier.
Indulge yourself in a private mini-retreat. One blissful afternoon designed for individuals or small groups who want focused time to reconnect with their creative voice. Through writing, intuitive art-making, breathwork, and gentle movement, you'll explore your ideas in a supportive, judgment-free space. No prompts, no critique, no pressure to share, just quiet, personalized guidance to help you work through blocks and find clarity. Sessions take place at my home in Las Vegas, which features access to a hot tub, pool, cozy nooks for creativity, and a small yoga studio.

I am committed to the lifelong work of anti-racism and dismantling systems of oppression.
The process of examining my language, interactions, and privilege is something I approach with joy. It’s not a chore or a burden. Deconstructing how white supremacy has shaped my life is one of the most powerful ways I learn, and I’m deeply committed to doing my part in building a more equitable world. I’m not pretending it’s easy. Sometimes it’s fucking hard. It’s humbling. It can even be humiliating. And I’m okay with that. My discomfort is necessary. White people should feel uncomfortable about our role in history and the unearned advantages we’ve received.
When it comes to yoga—which is a central part of my life and my retreats—I recognize my responsibility to honor and respect its roots. Yoga is a tradition, philosophy, and practice that originated in South Asia. In the West, it’s often been stripped of its context and reduced to a fitness trend. My intention is to share yoga in a way that respects its origins while keeping it accessible and inclusive for everyone seeking its benefits. That means being mindful not to misuse sacred symbols or language, encouraging students to engage with yoga as a holistic practice, and continually reaffirming its history and lineage beyond the modern Western lens.
I am committed to ongoing learning, self-examination, and honest dialogue. This isn’t a one-time declaration; it’s a lifelong commitment to personal and societal transformation. I welcome your feedback.
